Caryophyllene

Caryophyllene (beta-caryophyllene) is a sesquiterpene, built from three isoprene units, and it carries a four-membered carbon ring that is rare in nature. It is a major part of black pepper and clove oils. Exposed to air, it slowly oxidizes into caryophyllene oxide.

In the Strain Library, caryophyllene is among the measured terpenes of 7,003 of 7,134 strains (98%) and is the largest terpene in 2,266 strains. Where it was reported, it averaged 0.37% of the flower's weight. The strains with the most of it are Apple Smack (2.05%), Deathstar Cherry Pie (1.55%) and RS-37 (1.48%).
