How the data works
Every number on a strain page is an average of lab results for flower sold under that strain name. Here is how those averages are made and how to read them.
Where the numbers come from
The averages are computed from the Cannlytics cannabis_results dataset, a public collection of cannabis lab results (credits and license). Non-flower products were removed, strain names were cleaned up and merged, and the results were averaged per strain. Most results come from Nevada labs; strains seen in several states are the best documented.
Samples and confidence
Each page says how many lab samples are behind its average:
- High confidence: 20 or more samples.
- Medium: 8 to 19 samples.
- Low: 3 to 7 samples.
- Minimal: 1 or 2 samples. Read these as a first snapshot.
Averages will not match a single jar you buy: plants, harvests and labs vary. Terpene percentages are by weight of the dried flower.
Which strains get a full page in search
A strain is listed on the shelves and in search engines once it has at least 3 lab samples and at least 5 measured terpenes, and its name is not flagged as a possible producer label. Other strains still have a page you can find through search here.
Comparisons
"Library average" is the average share of a terpene among all strains where that terpene was reported. "Higher than X% of the library" compares a strain's THC or total terpene average with every other strain that has one.
Similar profiles
Similar strains are matched on the balance of their terpenes only (how much of each terpene, relative to the rest), not on effects, lineage or genetics.
Book colors
Each strain's book color comes from its name (a purple strain gets a purple book) or, failing that, its dominant terpene. It is a visual guide, not data.
Pictures
The flower pictures are illustrations generated with AI for this library. They are not photos of the strains, and related names can share one picture.
What the data does not have
There is no type (indica, sativa, hybrid), effect, flavor or lineage data yet. We will add it only from sources we have permission to use, and label it clearly. Until then those rows do not appear.
